tPEMF Therapy

Assisi Loop - Targeted Pulsed Electromagentic Therapy - Harbourside Vet

Red Dog Rehab - Assisi Loop (tPEMF) - red dog rehabilitationThe Assisi Loop is an FDA cleared, evidence based therapy for non-invasive, non-pharmacological treatment of pain and swelling. Targeted Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (tPEMF) has proven effective on pain for decades. Pulsed electromagnetic fields are highly effective in a diverse range of therapeutic applications with no side-effects or adverse reactions.  This portable, easy-to-use device allows owners to bring the healing home.

The Assisi Loop is an integral part of a complete healing program and can be used adjunctively with chiropractic, acupuncture, laser therapy, and pain medications. Loops are available to rent or purchase to continue the healing at home or at the barn.  Learn what the Loop can do for your pet or horse!

Conditions that can benefit from the Assisi Loop:

* Osteoarthritis

* Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD)

* Tendon/Ligament injuries

* Soft Tissue Trauma & Wound Care

* Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)

* Post Surgical pain & swelling

* Hoof pain including laminitis, navicular, & abscesses

* Joint pain

* Inflammatory conditions

How it Works:

tPEMF provides a specific signal carried on a series of magnetic field pulses to the treatment site(s). These uniquely specific energy parameters are transmitted through injured tissue to target the affected area via direct induction. A tiny electrical signal is deposited to the tissue in a way that mimics physiological stimulus that normally occurs in healthy tissue, thus stimulating cellular repair.  tPEMF is designed to accelerate the normal anti-inflammatory activity of the body. Multiple, sometimes concurrent, biological activities take place from the initial pain and swelling, through new blood vessel formation to tissue regeneration and then tissue remodeling. These processes are all related to an initial step, so accelerating that first electrochemical process should accelerate the whole cascade. Tissues will respond depending on their current state, so acutely inflamed tissue should rapidly respond by reductions in pain and swelling, while chronic wounds, for example, should see improvements in blood flow and growth factor production. Pulsed magnetic therapy research demonstrates that tPEMF therapy promotes various healing mechanisms, and has been found to promote bone tissue regeneration in humans, connective tissue regeneration, wound tissue regeneration (even where chronic wounds exist), and nerve tissue regeneration with no reported adverse reactions.

How do I use the Assisi Loop?

In general, it is recommended that you start with a loading dose of 2 to 4 15-minute treatments per day for acute and chronic or degenerative conditions.

For acute conditions (such as post-surgical treatment or recovery from a trauma), it is recommended that you continue 2 to 4 treatments per day for the first week or so and then taper off for the next 7 to 10 days or until the condition is fully healed.

For chronic or degenerative conditions, it is recommended that you continue with 2 to 4 treatments per day for 2 to 4 weeks and monitor the animal until you see improved mobility and less pain response. Again, you can taper down to 1 or 2 treatments per day or even 1-3 treatments per week. Ultimately, you want to consider that the Assisi Loop is catalyzing the anti-inflammatory cascade as well as accelerating the body’s own healing properties.

Will my pet insurance cover the cost of the Assisi Loop?

Most pet owner insurance will cover prescribed treatments. We recommend that you contact your insurance company for more information.
